Big Tree wins 2015 Moreton Hire Ken Russell Mem. Group 3 $125,000 at Gold Coast (QLD) 2yo, 1200m.
Big Tree, having only his second start was a surprise $61 winner. He was quickly away from barrier two and travelled well in front. He was challenged strongly rounding the home turn but fought off all challengers, going on to win in good style by a neck at the post winning like a smart colt.
Blueberry Hill raced in seventh place, wide with cover. She was held up between runners on straightening, got a split at the 200m and ran on nicely for a good second.
Favourite Regatta Rebel, from the Gai Waterhouse stable, raced outside the leader and eventual winner (Big Tree). She looked a serious threat at the 200m but battled a bit from that point to finish a close up third, still putting up a sound effort at only her second race start.
Look To The Stars was beyond midfield, between runners. She switched to the rails on turning for home and was in a challenging position at the 150m before finishing fourth, beaten just under a length.
Madotti settled in last place in the 13-horse field from her outside barrier. She went to the extreme outside on straightening and put up a very promising effort in finishing (1.1 lengths) fifth.
