Neo wins 2015 Carlton Draught P.M’s Cup Listed $100,000 at Gold Coast (QLD), 1400m.
Neo was smartly away and had a good trip behind the leading pair in third place, following a good tempo (first 800m 47.07). He loomed up at the home turn, got to the front at the 200m and went on to win well by a length at the post.
Top weight Ninth Legion began well from his wide barrier (11) but was trapped deep without cover in sixth place. He moved up (still wide) at the home turn, challenged at the 200m and fought gamely for a very good second, conceding 6.5kg to the winner.
Gundy Spirit settled near the tail of the field from his wide barrier (13). He improved (wide) from the 600m and kept making ground for a good third, beaten just under two lengths.
Favourite, The Peak was seventh early on (but trapped wide). He improved very well (still deep) at the 600m and looked the winner when he challenged at the 200m but he suddenly faulted, breaking down badly behind and Damian Browne did exceptionally well in easing him down without falling or causing interference. The Peak was later euthanized.
