Le Chef wins 2015 Jeep $2 Mill. M.M. 2yo Classic $2 Million at Gold Coast (QLD) 2yo, 1200m.
Le Chef began well and had a perfect run, behind the leaders on the rails. He got a split on straightening, took the lead at the 100m and went on to score well by three quarters of a length.
Pepperano was caught wide from her barrier (12) and travelled close to the leaders but deep without cover. She challenged strongly at the 300m and fought gamely for a good second after a difficult trip.
Single Gaze was back in 12th place on the rails. She improved between runners on rounding the home turn, challenged at the 200m and kept fighting on well for a sound third.
Madotti was fifth, between runners, moved up wide nearing the home turn and put in a good run at the 200m. She then fought on nicely for fourth, beaten just under two lengths.
Perignon settled back in the field from barrier ten. She was 14th at the 600m, improved between horses at the 300m and made good ground for (2 lengths) fifth.
The favourite Wicked Intent had quite a good run in seventh place, between runners, moved up rounding the home turn and briefly looked a threat at the 200m. But he only battled on from there to finish (2.2 lengths) sixth.
Claudia Jean was slowly away from her inside barrier (1) and raced in eighth place on the rails to the 600m. She got along the rails and looked a danger at the 200m but then tired on that run to finish (2.4 lengths) seventh.
The well-supported Surf Seeker settled in last place in the 16-horse field from his wide barrier (13). He went very wide from the 300m and made good late ground to finish (3.7 lengths) ninth, putting up quite a good effort considering the circumstances.
