Rommel wins 2014 Sky Racing - W.A. Guineas Group 2 $400,000 at Ascot (WA) 3yo, 1600m.
Rommel began well and settled in an ideal spot, third onthe rails, following a good pace (first 1000m 60.04). He moved tosecond rounding the home turn to set out after the tearaway leader(Furious Dame). He took the lead at the 200m and then fought backwell to score by half a length, putting up a solid effort in winning, hisfirst win in five starts this preparation.
The favourite, the previouslyunbeaten Disposition did not show much early pace from his goodbarrier (2) and settled back in fifth place. He was giving the leaderabout eight lengths as the commenced a run at 600m, he got to third at the 100m and then kept battling on well for second. He raced in amanner that suggests he is looking for longer.
Say Geronimo was a handy fourth to the turn and held on for third, beaten just under two lengths while the second favourite Outlaw Pete ran on fromseventh at the turn for (2.8 lengths) fourth.
