Mahara wins 2014 The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stks Group 3 $200,000 at Flemington (VIC) 4yo+ Mares, 1400m.
Mahara was eased across from barrier ten to settle in eighth place on the rails. She was travelling well but was blocked from the home turn, James McDonald finally finding a gap on the inside at the 100m and she then finished quickly to score by a length, going away. It was a smart win and yet another excellent ride by McDonald.
The winner’s stablemate Rose Of Choice enjoyed a good trip from her inside barrier (1) racing in third place on the rails. She got an inside run to hit the lead at the 300m and was only headed in the final stages for a sound second.
Vibrant Rouge travelled well, about seventh between runners. She got a split at the 300m, went to fourth at the 200m and then fought on nicely for third, beaten a length.
Belle De Coeur was eased from her wide barrier (11) and settled about 12th, wide with cover. She continued to track (behind runners) rounding the home turn, put in a quick run at the 300m and then fought on nicely for a good (1.2 lengths) fourth, putting up a sound effort at her third run this preparation.
