Interspersed gave young trainer Sam Kavanagh one of his finest wins yet.
Lightly raced Sam Kavanagh-trained filly Interspersed put up a very good performance to win.
She was slowly away and was well back in third last place in the 16-horse field to the 600m. She fanned very wide at the home turn and was still conceding many lengths on straightening but she produced a powerful finishing burst to score, going away, by a long neck. It was an impressive effort.
Lorna May travelled well in ninth place on the rails, she got a nice run through on the rails rounding the turn, went to fourth on straightening and looked the winner when she took the lead at the 100m. But she had no answer to the winner’s late bid and held on for a sound second.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Liberty’s Choice worked across from his wide barrier (14) and went to the lead on passing the 800m. He then led the field until the final 100m and held on quite well for a good third.
