The Melbourne Mail - August 11

There's a touch of spring in the air at Flemington this Saturday. Unless the storms hit of course.

There are a few weather warnings kicking about on Friday, with high winds and storms floating around, but hopefully Flemington gets lucky on Saturday and we get calm conditions for what looks a deep an interesting card.

For our best we will look to the feature and take on the early market leaders with a horse we are thinking looks well set-up - Brave Song.

Brave Song did the business a couple of weeks back and while not obviously impressive in winning first up from a break the tempo there likely smothered his edge on the field.

He dug in, got the job done, and showed that he can handle the slow/fast tempo that the Flemington straight races throw up so regularly these days.

With a 120-rated Home Of The Brave and an in-form Voodoo Lad in opposition there is no doubt that Brave Song wades into deeper waters on Saturday but he has taken on top liners before and run credibly. He has the figures to be seriously competitive from the base of the handicap and early markets may undersell him a bit.

For an each way play we will go to another former member of the Melbourne Mail - Kaching

He paid his way last time, nicking third, and ran really well in a race that should prove a strong future reference.

The step to 2000m is new ground for him but he shapes as though he will not only cope but perhaps relish it.

Good each way odds again see him one to keep on side.
