The Melbourne Mail - August 4

It's a new season but the theme looks the same at Moonee Valley this weekend - Darren Weir has a strong hand!

Our bet of the day will come from the stable of the record-breaking Weir who doesn't look like taking a step backwards in the new season.

Pacodali is one of five for the yard in the eighth race but he looks clearly the number one seed coming off a big win last time out and with top jockey Damien Lane booked.

Pacodali missed a run against his chief rivals here with found to be lame at Caulfield last time but his stablemate Sixties Groove picked up the prize and left Trap For Fools and Morton's Fork trailing behind him.

Sixties Groove is improving with racing, no doubt, but Pacodali did beat him fair and square when they met a month ago and Pacodali was just second up there, making it easy to think that there is plenty more to come from him this campaign.

He's tipped to take all the beating.

The same yard saddle an interesting each way runner in race two in the form of Ma Jones.

She has a rematch with Miles Of Krishan who dug in really well to beat her at Flemington last time. Ma Jones rattled home off a steady tempo there, doing well to finish as close as she did, and meets the winner on better terms now.

Naantali won on the same card, and deserves to head the betting, but the amount of market space she is likely to take up should see Ma Jones an attractive each way price and she's well worth a ticket given that.
