Sydney Specials: Randwick - July 7

We’ll be attempting to commence our day with a bang at Randwick tomorrow.

Best Guess Picture: Racing and Sports

The nine race program at Randwick on Saturday kicks off with a 2YO Handicap (1200m) where Marmaris currently holds favouritism.

That favouritism is justified after the Lonhro colt closed strongly into second at this course and distance a fortnight ago behind promising colt Dio D’oro.

Form out of the race has since been franked through the winner who dead heated in a 1400m 2YO Handicap at Rosehill last Saturday.

All signs point to Marmaris giving the form another push at Randwick on Saturday.

The colt showed plenty of promise during his three start maiden campaign during the summer which culminated with a strong win over 1250m at Canterbury.

The performance yielded strong figures, eight pounds clear of what he produced resuming a fortnight ago.

What his first up display did show however was the colt’s ability to handle rain affected ground, producing the closing effort on a Heavy 9 surface.

He profiles as a good way to build our bank early in the program.

Later in the card, Best Guess contests the Benchmark 84 tab.com.au Handicap (1300m).

Best Guess had a forgettable day out first up at Rosehill three weeks ago.

The son of Snippetson was trapped wide in transit and raced in restricted room for the most part down the straight before finishing ninth.

Post race the four-year-old was found to be lame.

Those willing to overlook the run could well be rewarded as his form last preparation was excellent as were his trials in readiness for this campaign.

Best Guess last prep claimed two wins at Canterbury and Rosehill. A second on resuming at Canterbury behind subsequent stakes winner White Moss also reads well.

He profiles like a typical off season Chris Waller sprinter who can progress through his grades.

Whilst his first up run is now something of a blemish on his record, Best Guess through 2017 garnered a reputation as quite a bombproof sprinter.

The gelding is unbeaten second up and unbeaten on soft tracks.

Chris Waller has dropped him back in grade from last start and can run a sharply improved race at a current quote of $7.50.
