Brisbane Best

We had a very nice day in Brisbane last weekend, especially those who grabbed the early $8 about Mishani Warrior, who did just enough to bring up a third-straight win.

Ferment missed a hat-trick of wins as predicted, the only downer was Mukaddamah Son running second to Escoffier, his big weight proving too much of an obstacle as he failed to reel in the race leader.

It’s an early start for us at Eagle Farm tomorrow and I really like the look of Spot The Rock in the first, resuming off a nine-month spell.

He’s a talented son of Fastnet Rock in the care of Tony Gollan, and rather lightly raced given he’s only had the 15 starts as a six-year-old.

Three of those came last campaign. He won a race resuming over 1110m at this track before a pair of second placings including a last-start showing behind Saluter who went onto win the $1m Magic Millions Guineas.

Perhaps more importantly though was his trial here earlier this month where he ran Sizzling to a head over 820m.

He looks ready to fire straight up, and should enjoy a nice trail into the race from barrier one behind Lightfeet Lady.

The $2 on offer gives you a nice chance to set yourself up early.

Our next play is in race four where I recommend taking on Escoffier, despite his all-the-way win at Doomben last weekend.

He’s currently a $4 equal favourite in what looks a much tougher race for him this time.

For starters he’s copped an extra 4.5kg from last weekend for his trouble.

More concerning though is the depth of opposition before him today.

Clonmacnoise and Awesome Ransom are both in very solid form while Fifth Column ran second in the Queensland Cup just two runs back.

Escoffier won’t get an easy time of it out in front either with Clonmacnoise and potentially Fifth Column likely to ensure there’s plenty of speed on.

Hanging on to a lead in the final furlong at Eagle Farm is hard enough without all the pressure he’ll be under from the outset.

I’m more than happy to steer clear of him this time around.

Fast forward to race six and I’m pretty keen on Teronado in the open three-year-old race.

He was super impressive here two weeks back finishing 3.5L clear in similar over 1300m and only carries an extra 1.5kg today.

Regular partner Damien Browne is back in the saddle and he may even have further upside this campaign given he’s only had the two runs back.

He won third-up last preparation at Doomben and I’m tipping he can do the same again today at $3.30.

Grey Countess, Cannyzing, Hotel Paradiso and Olympic Anthem can all lay claims but Teronado is the best horse in the race and that should be apparent when they come to the post.
