The racing industry is saddened by the passing of well-known bloodstock agent and racehorse owner, Mr David Lamond. Mr Lamond, 66, died suddenly on Wednesday night.
Top Randwick trainer, Ron Quinton, had known Mr Lamond for many years and prepared horses for him: "David's passing was a real shock. You would not meet a nicer bloke."
Mr Lamond owned and syndicated many top class racehorses in his time including Monton - a three-time Stakes-winner of more than $520,000 in prizemoney, and Crafty Irna (dual Stakes-winner of $437,00).
"I met David a long time ago and he has been a huge support to my stable. David was with me when I first started off training horses," Mr Quinton said. "Only recently he bought three youngsters by Dubawi and they all go well. He was an outstanding judge of horse flesh."
Mr Lamond was also a well-known rugby union player/coach, having coached rugby at St Ignatius' College, Riverview.
"He coached many good players at Riverview and I know he was a mentor to Paul Messara [now successful racehorse trainer]."
