Tip Of The Day: 5th September

Sam King returns with two selections on Thursday afternoon…

Today's horse racing tips

Newbury 5.10 – Candy

The Richard Spencer-trained Candy was well-backed to grab the spoils on his second handicap outing last month and it looked as though the touch would be landed when he came there travelling strongly at the furlong pole. However, he was pegged back late on and ultimately finished a good second, but compensation may now await back over the same course and distance.

Jockey George Wood retains the ride, and he may well hold onto his mount a little bit longer this time around, with the knowledge of what happened last time now in the memory.

A 4lb rise in the weights should prove manageable and with this being just his second start over six furlongs, it's definitely possible there's further improvement to come. The forecast quick ground conditions also hold no fears and he's taken to gain a deserved breakthrough success.

Odds – 3/1

Salisbury 3.50 - Tabiti

The Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes takes centre stage at Salisbury this afternoon and I'm fully expecting Tabiti to enhance her already tall reputation. The Juddmonte-owned filly created a very taking impression when lengthening away for a commanding three-and-a-quarter length debut success at Newmarket last month.

Ralph Beckett's contender drops back to six furlongs here, but she showed plenty of speed when making all of the running over seven on debut and it appears as though connections have opted for this trip with a view to running in the Rockfel down the line. The daughter of Kingman handled the undulations of Newmarket particularly well first time out, leaving the impression that a track like Salisbury should possess no problems.

Finally, the booking of Ryan Moore almost certainly catches the eye and I'd be disappointed if she couldn't land this en-route to bigger and better things.

Odds – 5/4
