Supply And Demand (Trial 2): The Gai Waterhouse-Adrian Bott gelding hasn’t been seen since scoring four successive wins from 1800m-2400m over the winter months but showed plenty of dash to lead throughout and win the open heat over 1050m. Supply And Demand came of age last preparation with Listed wins in the Caloundra and Grafton Cups and looks set for another big preparation after he went straight to the front in the trial and opened up a handy gap before the turn. Given a good hitout when pushed out in the straight, the five year-old was eased down late to beat Lady Sansa by four lengths in 1:03.50. Supply And Demand may trial again before resuming but looks one to put in the black book.
Moher (Trial 3): The Godolphin was an eye catcher in his 1050m trial. Moher settled in the second half of the field and was in front of only two runners on straightening but warmed up strongly under minimal urging, doing his best work late to finish a 1.5 length second to Bravissimo, who clocked 1.02.3. Moher has raced just once this preparation when he was outclassed and outpaced behind In Her Time in the Premiere Stakes but he was twice stakes placed at 1600m last campaign and with the feature races now finished in Sydney for the spring, Moher could find some suitable targets in the coming weeks.
King (Trial 8): The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt was the standout performer from the four two-year-old trials, clocking 43 seconds flat for 745m, clearly the fastest of the morning including the open-age trials. The son of Written Tycoon showed gate speed to find the early lead although racing well away from the rails and was clear on straightening. King extended his lead halfway down the straight and went to the line largely under his own steam to score by 3.3 lengths over Godolphin’s Sparks. King had trialled once before when beaten 14 lengths but was a different colt with blinkers on and as a son of Gimcrack Stakes winner Brilliant Bisc by a stallion who has sired a Golden Slipper winner he is bred to be a good two-year-old.
Ghisoni (Trial 12): A quality mare at her best, Ghisoni indicated she could be ready for a return to form with a closing effort in her 745m trial. A dual Group winner, she had 62 weeks on the sidelines before resuming in the Sheraco Stakes but could beat only one home, finishing 5.7 lengths off the winner. Sent back to the trials, she settled last in the 745m heat but when brought to the outside in the straight she would up strongly under minimal urging and closed well late to get within a nose of Long Time Ago in 44.4 seconds. Ghisoni is entered for this Saturday’s Nivison Stakes at Randwick so expect a fitter mare if she lines up in that race.
