Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Randwick Race 4 - 8 Nicconita

Goulburn-trained mare missed a place only once in her six starts and comes to town off the back of two excellent wins since resuming that have marked her as a mare destined for better.

Too good in maiden company first-up on a slow track at Wagga then came from well off the pace with a strong closing sprint to beat a BM55 field over 1200m on her home track May 27 carrying 60kg. Well placed to make the expected progression.

Randwick Race 6 - 6 Savvan

Consistent mare is ready to go to a new peak at her third start under new trainer after two strong placings over 1200m at this course since resuming.

Akasaki Picture: Racing and Sports
Did plenty of work covering ground last start when a game second on a heavy track on June 9 to add her strong record in affected ground and the step up to 1400m is what she is looking for. Conditions look ideal for her to make further improvement.

Randwick Race 7 - 8 Akasaki

This will be a hard run sprint in testing ground and may suit a horse sitting back and saved for a late run, conditions that should be ideal for this good wet tracker who definitely should have been in the finish last time over 1100m at Rosehill when checked at the 400m.

Big finish to win his previous start at the Scone carnival and worth an each way play at the double figure odds under these conditions as he gets a big drop in weight from his recent starts and with only 51kg will have the chance to run over the top of this field.
