Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Rosehill Race 2 - 10 Air Apparent

Begs more than passing attention at her third start back from a spell as she boasts some excellent form for this company in her earlier preparations in Victoria and has had the better of several rivals in this race in previous events.

Had excuses second up when she missed the start by three lengths before recovering well for a closing fifth behind Girl Sunday when beaten 1.1 lengths carrying 60kg.

She’s under a barrier warning but she has won when third up in the past, drops a notable 5.5kg from her last start and should give an excellent sight at value odds if she jumps on terms.

Rosehill Race 5 - 6 Le Cordon Bleu

Highly talented 6YO has been held back to only 14 starts due to interruptions to his career but showed he retains his ability when he resumed off a four months break with an excellent third in the Listed Randwick Lightning over 1100m won by the classy Spieth, making up many lengths from near last.

The five weeks break between runs fits his profile and there is ample pace in this easier field to give him a good run into the race from an inside draw. The recall of Tommy Berry as his rider is significant as they have combined successfully in the past.

Rosehill Race 9 - 13 Salmanazar

It’s time top Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan started to make his mark from his Sydney satellite stable and suspect this promising gelding has been well prepared for a first-up score coming off the back of an easy barrier trial win over 900m at Rosehill on November 7.

He has had just six career starts and showed plenty over the Brisbane winter carnival when he rose from a maiden win to be placed in strong stakes company, coping confidently with all types of surfaces.

Lady Jivago is one to note from last week Picture: Racing and Sports

He is well drawn to suit his on-pace running style and his good trial points to him being ready to make further improvement.
