Chindit enhanced his stallion credentials with an easy victory in the Group 3 Superior Mile Stakes at Haydock Park on Saturday. The five-year-old was purchased in July by Dr Cyrus Poonawalla and will stand at stud in India once his racing career has finished.
The success means Chindit has now won a Group race in each season of racing - Group 2 Vintage Stakes as a juvenile, Group 3 Greenham Stakes at three and Group 2 Summer Mile during his four-year-old campaign.
Point Lynas set the early tempo under Callum Rodriguez and as the pace began to quicken at the three furlong marker, Chindit began to make gradual progress down the outside. With main market rivals Zoology and Light Infantry unable to find room, Chindit was able to pull clear of the field with two furlongs to run. Light Infantry began to make up ground in the closing stages but could not peg back Chindit, who recorded an easy two length victory for jockey James Doyle. Regal Reality finished well for third.
In a post race interview with ITV Racing, jockey James Doyle said, "He's a class animal on his day, he didn't get off to the best of starts, we jumped a fraction slow and the runners to my outside squeezed me out early.
"I was happy to let him enjoy himself, he warmed into the race well, between the three and the two [furlong markers], I could see my danger was down the inner and it can be tricky when you're in that situation so I thought I'd kick on. He took hold of the bridle and took me into it well, so I just let him go for home, he gets through the line well over a mile."
