My Prospero will be aiming to bounce back to winning ways when returning to Group 2 company in the York Stakes on 29 July.

The Iffraaj colt was touted as a potential Group 1 winner at the start of the season, having been denied by only a neck in the Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes and half a length in the Group 1 British Champion Stakes during his three-year-old campaign.

Following a fourth in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes on seasonal reappearance, William Haggas had remained confident that the return to ten furlongs would bring the best out of his stable star. Although he raced prominently through the early stages in the Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, the colt was unable to rally in the final furlong and finished a well-beaten fourth behind Mostahdaf.

"We are looking at York next Saturday. He has run in two Group Ones [this season] and we just want to get his confidence, get him back winning if we can," said trainer William Haggas.

"It will be a tough race, but he's a pretty nice horse and he looks and seems well, so hopefully he will run a good race.

"He is a good horse. He hasn't done badly, he's been fourth – but I was a little disappointed with him at Ascot. We have freshened him up a bit and hopefully he will run well."

My Prospero is likely to face the returning multiple Group winner Alflaila in the York Stakes.
