Vicki Gibbins' Horse Racing Tips Today

We have three selections for Wednesday's racing, including a selection in the feature race at Fairyhouse...

We head across the Irish Sea for our first selection in the 7f Group 3 Brownstown Stakes (6:50) at Fairyhouse. It is a surprise that Zarinsk is not favourite for the fillies' and mares Group 3 with the drop back to seven furlongs certain to suit and the form of her Group 3 Cornelscourt Stakes continuing to receive boosts. The second-placed filly Tarnawa filled the same position in the Listed Celebration Stakes, the third-placed Aspen Grove won the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks on Saturday, and the fourth-placed American Sonja posted a victory in the Listed Prix Volterra Stakes and is current favourite for the Fairyhouse contest.

Although Zarinsk was beaten into fourth on her sole subsequent start in the Group 2 Prix de Sandringham over a mile at Chantilly subsequently, she is arguably better over seven furlongs, and a big performance is expected back on Irish soil.

SELECTION – ZARINSK (2/1)

We remain at Fairyhouse for the second selection, with The Caribbean catching the eye in the 6f Kilminfoyle House Stud Irish EBF Maiden (5:50). The Aidan O'Brien trained colt gets the assistance of Killian Hennessy's five pound claim and he has plenty of racecourse experience compared to rivals, having already had two runs.

Fifth on debut at York in a competitive novice, the No Nay Never colt was a beaten favourite when second over course and distance on his second outing. He was bumped at the start and never looked to get back on terms, unable to match the eventual winner Prince X J in the closing stages. Blinkers are applied for the first time which should spark some improvement in the colt, who is a half-brother to multiple Black Type performers.

SELECTION – THE CARIBBEAN (15/8)

It's a competitive affair in the 5f Class 5 British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Restricted Novice Stakes (2:50) at Yarmouth but Harvanna appeals at her current price of 2/1. The Karl Burke-trained juvenile should probably be favourite based on her easy success at York in mid-June, where she produced a professional performance to win by one-and-a-half-lengths. She was restrained in the rear and made easy headway at the halfway marker and the result was never in doubt.

Although the Havana Grey filly was well-beaten on debut at Catterick, it's possible that inexperience played a part in that defeat and she seems to be going from strength to strength. The yard is in excellent form with a strike rate of 24% (13-54) from the last fourteen days and their juveniles are flying.

SELECTION – HARVANNA (2/1)
