Sam King’s Horse Racing Tips Today

Sam King tipped a 3/1 winner at Kelso yesterday and he returns with three selections for Monday’s Bank Holiday action.

With six meetings on offer across the UK and Ireland, there's plenty to get stuck into this afternoon.

Simon and Ed Crisford send just one horse up to Redcar today and that looks notable given seven of their last twenty runners at the Yorkshire track have been successful.

Eight go to post in the Jacks Coaches Handicap at 4.36 and Dukeman looks by far the most interesting proposition in my mind.

The gelded son of Kingman looked like a nice prospect when winning a Newcastle novice event on his second start. He produced a good effort to finish runner-up under the penalty when upped to 1m2f at Epsom in September despite seemingly failing to handle the track.

There should be plenty more to come from him this season now handicapping, and he looks just the type of horse to do better with age. An opening mark of 82 could prove lenient with further progress beckoning and he can make the long journey north worthwhile for the Newmarket-based stable.

Selection: Dukeman - General 2/1

We head to Leicester for our second wager and Miss Cynthia catches the eye for obvious reasons in the Rainbow Fillies' Handicap at 5.25.

There's no hotter trainer in the country right now than Sir Mark Prescott with the Heath House Stables team currently operating at a remarkable 71% (5-7) strike-rate for the last fortnight.

It's no surprise she struggled to make much of an impact as a two-year-old given her pedigree. That said, she did finish an eye-catching third when staying on from the rear of the field over 7f at Southwell in October and a strict line through that form would make a mark of 71 workable now handicapping.

However, it's the step up in trip that really makes her appealing. The daughter of Sea The Moon out of a Galileo mare was always going to find 7f on the sharp side in her juvenile campaign and I'm fully expecting her to take a sizeable leap forward on her handicap debut this afternoon.

Selection: Miss Cynthia - General 15/8

Our third and final selection also comes from Leicester, and it could pay to take a chance on Ed Dunlop's Dame Sarra in what looks like a wide-open Heartwise Handicap at 5.55.

Although yet to really threaten the judge in five starts to date she hasn't been disgraced on both handicap outings and shaped slightly better than the bare result when fifth at Wolverhampton in April.

She looked set to be involved at the business end entering the final few furlongs but possibly failed to stay the 1m4f trip that day. There's been plenty of market strength behind her in both handicap starts, and its interesting connections opt to drop back to 1m2f back on the turf.

Ed Dunlop had a horse bolt up when fitted with a first-time visor fitted at Lingfield a few weeks ago and I'd expect this filly to travel sweeter now fitted with headgear.

The daughter of Decorated Knight also now finds herself 5lb lower than when sixth at Wolverhampton on her handicap debut and she looks worth chancing at the current prices.

Selection: Dame Sarra - General 16/1
