Roger Varian's Mill Reef winner was fancied for the race at HQ with David Egan booked as the jockey.

In fact Coral had chalked up the horse as the 6/4 favourite, with spokesman John Hill claiming the horse had "looked very impressive in the early stages of his career".

The two-year-old colt was all set to test the water in Group One company this weekend, having been supplemented for the Dewhurst earlier this week at a cost of £35,000, but he will not line up on the Rowley Mile.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Varian said: "Unfortunately Sakheer has scoped dirty this morning ahead of his intended run in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

"This is of course very frustrating and disappointing, and I am very sorry for owners KHK Racing and everyone connected with the horse.

"He will be put away now for the season and we look forward to him returning as a three-year-old."

The son of Zoffany successfully stepped up to Group Two level with a dominant display at Newbury last month. He quickened inside the final furlong to defeat Rousing Encore by three-and-half lengths.

Before that he went off as 1/2 favourite and bolted up by six lengths on good ground at Haydock last month.

The KHK Racing Ltd horse had been progressing nicely since her Windsor debut in August. He was beaten half a length by Magical Sunset after he dwelt at the start before wandering arround in the final furlong.
