A late pounce by Green Destiny in Newbury's Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial saw trainer William Haggas confirm a Group One assignment on Champions Day at Ascot.
Sent off the favourite after a good win at York, Green Destiny and Kieren Fallon were way adrift of Roger Charlton's pair Al Kazeem and Sea Of Heartbreak but motored home wide to score by half a length.
“He'll probably have a dart at the Champion Stakes now," said Haggas.
“My view was that if he could carry a penalty in this race against good horses, he'd be doing well.
“This is a good horse. He did well to win from as far back as he got and Kieren said he is a good horse."
The four-year-old has progressed rapidly this season to win the Group 3 Strensall Stakes York in August prior to this impressive win.
Turning into the home straight Fallon attempted to weave his way through but he was continuously denied a clear run and was forced to switch wide two furlongs out.
Al Kazeem went two lengths clear and looked to have the race in the bag with his stablemate Sea Of Heartbreak chasing him home but as soon as Green Destiny saw daylight he unleashed with a change of gear and picked up smartly to win his fourth race this season.
Fallon said: "He got me out of trouble in the end. He was lazy through his race but picked up really well."
