El Roca breeders reward scheme
Westbury Stud have announced a special deal for breeders looking to support recently retired Group One performer El Roca.
The son of Fastnet Rock stands at $7500 plus GST with a Live Foal Guarantee and payment is not required until 1 June 2016.
Those that breed to El Roca in year one can look forward to a half price service fee in year two and a free service in years three and four respectively.
"The aim of this scheme is to offer breeders some relief if they breed a filly and to allow them the chance to breed a couple of colts at an economical cost," Westbury Stud's Sales Manager Gareth Smith said.
Zuhayr wins Dreschler
Talented Zabeel five-year-old Zuhayr will be aimed at next month's Grand National Hurdle following his win in Sunday’s A$80,000 Brendan Dreschler Hurdle (3600m) at Bendigo.
Having finished runner-up in the Australian and Kevin Lafferty Hurdles at his past two starts Zuhayr gained valuable compensation when defeating former New Zealand galloper Fieldmaster.
Trainer Tony Rosolini said Zuhayrl would be better suited in next month’s A$200,000 Grand National Hurdle (3900m) at Warrnambool.
"He’s been going really well as virtually a first-season jumper," Rosolini said.
"Every run he’s had he's improved and the longer trip of the Grand National will suit him even better."
Beauty’s Beast in winning form
Former Te Rapa-based galloper Beauty’s Beast returned to the winners circle at Rosehill on Saturday.
Formerly in the career of David Greene the four-year-old is now trained by Danny O’Brien.
“This horse really enjoys getting out to the lead,” said jockey Winona Costin.
“He hangs in a fair bit but I was fortunate enough to get him off the fence down the straight and he really hit the line strongly.
“He kept on grinding and I think that’s just the type of horse he is.
Cameron side-lined
New Zealand’s premiership leading jockey Matthew Cameron has been suspended for three days for careless riding onboard Silencer at Ruakaka on Saturday.
Cameron will be out of action from the close of racing Saturday July 4 through to Friday July 10 meaning he cannot ride at Te Aroha (July 5), Matamata (July 8), Stratford (July 9) and Timaru (July 10).
Cameron is 13 wins clear of Danielle Johnson with 27 race days remaining in the 2014-15 season.
