Australia features in Massa Lu’s future

Australia is on the radar for Massa Lu, but whether it’s this season or next remains to be seen.

He opened his winning account at Avondale on Friday and while he’s an outside chance for a trip to the Brisbane carnival, the odds will be trimmed if he can strike again in the Listed Great Northern Foal Stakes at Ellerslie on May 23.

The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained son of Makfi holds an entry for the $A600,000 JJ Atkins at Doomben on June 16.

“He’s nominated and Murray and Andrew would consider it if he won well next time,” said Bruce Perry, who manages the colt’s fortunes for Lib Petagna’s JML Bloodstock and the Homebush Partnership No.5 Syndicate.

“He’s still learning and it’s a possibility, otherwise he’ll be put aside and he might go over to Australia in the spring.”

Runner-up on debut at Te Rapa, Massa Lu jumped to the front at Avondale and kicked strongly in the straight under rider Matt Cameron to defeat the first-timers Ragnaar and Dukedom.
