She lived up to connections’ hopes when naming her with a smart win on debut last season and a placing at the recent Te Teko trials has confirmed she is on target to protect her perfect record when she resumes over 1100 metres.

“What she did as a two-year-old was on sheer ability and we put no pressure on her to get to Matamata,” said Paul Shailer, who prepares her with brother Kris.

“She was always going to go out after that to concentrate on her three-year-old campaign.

“She trialled up well and she’ll kick off at Taupo and four weeks later on to the Gold Trail Stakes. Hopefully, we can then press on toward Christchurch for the Guineas.”

A $100,000 yearling at Karaka, Dream Run is a daughter of Pins and the Redoute’s Choice mare Run Brony Run from the successful stallion family of Encosta de Lago, Flying Spur and Holy Roman Emperor.

“She’s quite a big, raw-boned filly and she’s going to keep improving with time,” Shailer said.

The stable was also encouraged by the winning effort at Te Teko of an unnamed Stravinsky colt out of the multiple winner Magnesium.

“He walked out of the gates and not many horses can give that big a start over 600 metres and pick them up, although I don’t know much about the others,” Shailer said.

“He had a week in the paddock after that at Landsdowne Park, who we bought him off, and he’s come back in super order.

“He’s a cracking type – a real athlete, very muscular and a genuine two-year-old. He’ll probably run at Ruakaka next month on the 13th.”
