First Australian Winner For Power

Cambridge Stud sire Power opened his Australian account last Saturday when blueblood Hulme won by three lengths on debut at Wodonga in Victoria.

Bred by Pencarrow Stud's Sir Peter Vela, Hulme is out of the Montjeu mare Madam Echezeaux, a half-sister to Darci Brahma and emerging Cambridge Stud stallion Burgundy.

He was sold for $100,000 at NZ Premier Sale at Karaka where he was knocked down to Peter Moody before joining the stable of Mick Price in Melbourne.

Hulme was just the third runner for Power in Australia. His top NZ product in his first crop has been Gift Of Power, who claimed the G2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes at Trentham earlier this season.

Gift Of Power has returned to training with Graeme and Debbie Rogerson and will target three-year-old filly features in the new season with the G1 1000 Guineas at Riccarton in November a likely target.

Power, by Oasis Dream, has had two other stakes performers in New Zealand this season and has had 30 individual winners worldwide, among them five stakes winners.
