Zenyatta Produces Bernadini Colt

Champion mare Zenyatta has produced her first foal at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky.

The colt is by 2010 US Horse of the Year Bernardini.

Zenyatta was retired in November of 2010 after her only career loss to Blame in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs.

The great mare had won all of her previous 19 starts including 13 Group One races for trainer John Shirreffs and owners Jerry and Ann Moss.

"Dear, dear, dear friends, I am so proud and elated to share the news with you that I am now a mom," was how Zenyatta's foal was announced by her owners on her own web diary.

"I just gave birth to a lovely dark bay colt. My adorable foal weighed in at 130 pounds, has a white star on his forehead and some white on his feet.

"All went very well with the foaling. My foal is absolutely precious."

Zenyatta, by Street Cry, earned $US7,304,580.

Bernardini has already sired a dozen northern hemisphere takes winner including G1 winners To Honor And Serve, Stay Thirsty, A Z Warrior and Biondetti.

He will be represented by 21 yearlings at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. They include foals by G1 winners Dizelle and Grand Journey and half-relations to stakes winners He's No Pie Eater, La Chasseuse and Brightexpectations.
