First foal out of stakes winner Bidii Babe proves popular.
Progeny of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) set the standard on the first day of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, with the first foal out of Listed-winning Not A Single Doubt (Redoute's Choice) mare Bidii Babe selling to Ciaron Maher Bloodstock for $800,000 on Tuesday.
Catalogued as Lot 100 and offered by Yarraman Park Stud - the home of the son of Invincible Spirit (Green Desert) - the filly is from the same family as South African Grade 3 winner Queen's Command (Commands) and Group 3 scorer Shazee Lee (Ready's Image).
Maher's co-trainer David Eustace told Racing & Sports Bloodstock that she was their top-pick of the fillies on day one and were happy to be leaving the complex with the daughter of I Am Invincible in tow.
"She was our filly of the sale on day one," said Eustace. "As you expect, she was forward, strong with a good middle and she had a great attitude.
"She is very Not A Single Doubt in mind and has a great brain. We thought she was a perfect combination of Not A Single Doubt and I Am Invincible - walked like Not A Single Doubt and was the physical of I Am Invincible, she ticked all the boxes."
Eustace said she showed all the signs to be early and earmarked her as a candidate for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) next year.
"She looks like she will be early and will hit the ground running and definitely one for the race next year. She is just very well put together - we loved her," said Eustace.
"Our favourite colt on day one was Lot 44 and we thought we got that cheap enough at $250,000, but this filly probably made a little bit more than we had hoped, but all in all was about even. But the sale has been strong enough for sure."
Yarraman Park's Harry Mitchell told Racing & Sports Bloodstock the filly was a lovely type and expected her to be well received, but was not expecting her to realise that sort of price-tag.
"She is the first foal out of a sharp-running mare," said Mitchell. "She wasn't overly big, but she is a great mover with a great mind, we didn't expect that sort of price, but I suppose when a lot of people are on her you will get paid more. We are very happy to see Ciaron and David secure her, they are pretty good with those two-year-olds!
"She was just one of those fillies with a lovely head, moved beautifully and didn't turn a hair throughout the whole process. Let's hope she runs as fast as she needs to!"
The aforementioned colt (Lot 44) was a colt from the first crop of Arrowfield Stud-based first-season sire Pariah (Redoute's Choice) and was offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds.
The colt is out of the placed Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) mare Amerindia, who is herself out of 2007 Prix de l'Opera (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Satwa Queen (Muhtathir) making her a half-sister to Listed scorer Important Time (Oasis Dream).
Pariah had five lots sell on day one for a total of $810,000 at an average of $162,000.
Later on in the afternoon, Maher and Eutace will hope the lightning will strike twice as they paired up with last year's Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner's Away Game's (Snitzel) owner Hannah Matheison to purchase another filly by I Am Invincible for $620,000.
Catalogued as Lot 144 and offered by Tyreel Stud, the daughter of I Am Invincible is out of Listed-placed Flying Spur (Danehill) mare Catalonia, who has already produced two winners headed by Inglis Banner 2YO Stakes (RL, 1000m) winner Espanniyah (I Am Invincible).
Catalonia herself is half-sister to Group 3 winner Jorda (Exceed And Excel). Meanwhile the filly's third dam is six time winner Road To Glory (Provideo) - the dam of Listed scorer Le Mans (Quest For Fame), while she is also the grandam of Group 3 winners Detours (Ad Valorem), Aichi (Strategic) and Hioctdane (Strada).
All ten yearlings offered by I Am Invincible on Tuesday were sold for $5,405,000 at an average of $540,000. He finished the 2020 sale as the leading sire with 42 lots having sold for $20,245,000 at an average of $482,024.
