Outstanding race filly Fundamentalist (Not A Single Doubt) is among the latest wildcard entries confirmed for The Inglis Chairman’s Sale which will take place online on May 8.

The high-class filly - who will be offered in foal to Zoustar (Northern Meteor) -  was placed five times at Group 1 level, including in the Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m), Surround Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) and Randwick Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m), while she also finished third behind The Autumn Sun (Redoute’s Choice) and Zousain (Zoustar) in the JJ Atkins Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) as a juvenile.

She was retired as a relatively lightly-raced prospect and has tested positive to Widden Stud’s Zoustar at her first covering.

Sebastian Hutch, general manager of bloodstock and sales at Inglis, said it was rare for a mare with the profile of Fundamentalist to be offered a public auction.

“We have set out some objectives to target mares with particular profiles that we tried collecting for this sale,” said Hutch. “They are young mares with elite racecourse performance by hugely appealing stallions and in foal to equally appealing stallions - and Fundamentalist fits this profile. We are really very fortunate to be able to sell a mare like Fundamentalist because people generally don’t want to sell those sorts of mares, but it just so happens that she is owned by a partnership that is not a breeding partnership.

“Not A Single Doubt is interesting as a broodmare sire as he is incredibly well bred and is synonymous with real quality in his stock. He can get them fast, he can get them precocious, he can get them versatile and they have a good appetite for racing and he is so beautifully bred - which is a good recipe for a good broodmare sire. Fundamentalist is a profile of mare that Zoustar has done well with.”

Hutch was vehement in his praise for the daughter of Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice), who he said was incredibly unlucky not to have landed multiple Group 1s in her career.

“She really is a Group 1 winner in all but name - a whisker here and there and we would be looking at multiple Group 1 winner and we’d  be talking extraordinary prices for her,” said Hutch. “It is really exciting and it will be a great opportunity for somebody.”

Part-owner Wes Heritage described Fundamentalist as “a mighty mare who took us on the ride of a lifetime’’.

“She was so much fun to race, just a group of mates who have been on a journey around Australia with her contesting Stakes races in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide but not everybody involved in her are breeders so the time has come to dissolve the partnership,’’ Heritage said.

“She was as tough as they come on the track, she’s gone to the breeding barn without having been over-raced, she’s by a great stallion in Not A Single Doubt and I have no doubt she’s going to prove an absolutely outstanding broodmare prospect for her lucky new owner.’’

The mare is out of two-time winning mare Centafaith (Keep The Faith), who is herself out of Listed winner Centaleigh (Centaine).

Fundamentalist joins other recent wildcard entries which include the likes of Group 1 winner Youngstar (High Chaparral), classy juvenile Bella Rosa (Snitzel) and Summer Surf (Big Brown) - a half-sister to Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Farnan (Not A Single Doubt) - who will be offered in foal to Aquis-based first season sire Brave Smash (Tosen Phantom).

Hutch said the auction house was looking to build on last year’s hugely successful Chairman’s Sale.

“We were very pleased with how the sale went in 2019 and we are very confident we can build on that in 2020,” said Hutch.

Applications for a Wildcard spot in The Chairman’s Sale will be accepted up until 5pm on Friday April 24.

The sale will begin at 3pm on May 8 at inglis.com.au.
