Lane's End Farm's unbeaten multiple Grade 1 winner rated 140
Flightline (Tapit), who will stand his first season at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky this year, was named 2022 World's Best Racehorse on Tuesday with a rating of 140, the same award to Frankel (Galileo) in 2022.
Flightline achieved that rating in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic Stakes (10f) at Del Mar last September, when he demolished the six-runner field and pulled over 19 lengths clear of Bob Baffert's Group 1 Dubai World Cup (2000m) winner Country Grammar (Tonalist). The rating equalled Frankel's benchmark rating, set in 2012, under the current system.
Trained by John Saddler, Flightline was retired the winner of all six of his career starts, with his final race coming at Keeneland in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Classic (10f) on 5 November. He will stand his first season at Lane's End Farm this year for $200,000.
Baaeed (Sea The Stars) meanwhile, who will stand his first season at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud this year, was the highest-rated turf horse for 2022, and second highest rated horse overall. He was rated 135 for his victory in the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes (1m2.5f) at York last August when he defeated Mishriff (Make Believe) by six and a half lengths.
Shadwell have set the son of Sea The Star's (Cape Cross) introductory fee at £80,000 this year.
