Aggregate and average rise while median jumps 40 per cent
Dermot Farrington went to €970,000 to buy Ladies Church (Churchill) during the opening session of the Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale on Friday. The three-year-old filly was one of eight lots who sold for €500,000 or more on Friday and is a Group 2 winning daughter of Churchill (Galileo).
Trained by Johnny Murtagh, Ladies Church has raced nine times for three wins with her biggest victory coming in the Group 3 Sapphire Stakes (5f) at the Curragh in July.
BBA Ireland and Lucky Vega Syndicate was the day's leading buyer having spent €5,215,000 on 18 lots including six of the top ten highest priced lots. Aspiring (Galileo) was one of those lots, selling from Baroda Stud for €790,000.
The four-year-old daughter of Galileo (Sadler's Wells) is an unrated half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Danedream (Lomitas) and was sold in foal to Wootton Bassett (Iffraaj).
Wootton Bassett will stand for €150,000 at Coolmore Stud next year.
BBA Ireland and Lucky Vega Syndicate also bought another daughter of Galileo in three-year-old Pleasant Dreams who was sold in foal to Starspangledbanner (Choisir). The three-year-old mare is an unraced sister to stakes placed Modern Science and a half-sister to Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed Besharah (Kodiac).
Overall on Friday, 200 of the 241 lots offered sold for €16,465,500, up 19 per cent from last year's figure. The average was €82,328, an increase of 16 per cent and median finished at €42,000, up a massive 40 per cent on the 2021 figure.
The second and final day of the sale will be held on Saturday.
