Kalahara lands Prix d'Arenberg
Juddmonte Farms’ Frankel (Galileo) was represented by his 57th stakes winner on Thursday as Kalahara (2 f ex Desertiste by Green Desert) flashed home to win the Prix d'Arenberg (Listed, 1000m).
As the field approached the closing stages it looked to be another winner in France for American trainer Wesley Ward as Wink (Midshipman) slipped the field. But the Kalahara closed the gap with every stride to come away with a cosy length victory. Livachope (Goken) finished another two lengths away in third.
Bred and raced by Wertheimer & Frere, the filly - who was last seen breaking her maiden over 1200 metres in Deauville - is out of two-time winning Green Desert (Danzig) mare Desertiste, making her a half-sister to Group 3 winner Sasparella (Shamardal) and two winners.
Sasparella herself is a daughter of dual Group 1 winner Occupandiste (Kaldoun), who also produced fellow dual elite level winner Mondaliste (Galileo), Group 3 winner Only Answer (Green Desert), Listed scorer Planetaire (Galileo) and Impressionate (Danehill), with the latter being the dam of Prix du Jockey Club (Gr 1, 2100m) winner and now Cheveley Park Stud resident Intello (Galileo).
Frankel stood at Juddmonte Farm's Banstead Manor base in Newmarket for a fee of £175,000 in 2020. The son of Galileo is represented in the southern hemisphere by his son Eminent, who is standing at Brighthill Farm in New Zealand for a fee of NZ$7,500 (plus GST) in 2020 and Frankel My Dear who will is standing his first season Ryand Thoroughbreds in Victoria for a fee of $6,600 (inc GST).
