Long-time Godolphin employee ascends to main general manager role
Godolphin has announced the new head of its Australian operation with Andy Makiv on Thursday revealed as the general manager.
Makiv becomes just the third head of the operation that has had a major presence in Australia since 2008, promoted to the role vacated by Vin Cox late last year.
Makiv has been a long-time employee at Darley and Godolphin, most recently as head of sales, and is excited to be overseeing the operation.
"I'm honoured to be part of such a dynamic organisation," Makiv said.
"I'm excited to continue working with our great people, elite bloodstock and world-class facilities as we pursue further success both on the track and with our stallion roster."
Makiv joined Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's operation in 2008 in the role of nominations manager at Darley Victoria before ascending to role as state general manager.
He worked closely with Cox during his six-year tenure at Godolphin, which ended when he departed for a similar position at Yulong, with Henry Plumptre the other person to have had the role as Australian general manager for the worldwide operation.
Darley is home to many of Australia's most sought-after stallions, headlined by Exceed And Excel and Anamoe, while it also owns several leading contenders for some of Australia's biggest spring features.
Star colts Broadsiding and Traffic Warden occupy the top two lines in Golden Rose betting, while Tom Kitten is favourite for the prestigious Epsom Handicap.
