A look at the top lots of a bumper first day of the National Broodmare Sale
Imperatriz was the star of the show, but she wasn't the only lot to achieve an outstanding result on Day 1 of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast.
Eight fillies or mares sold for at least $1 million on a day when $51,725,000 changed hands at an average of $309,731 with an 84 percent clearance rate.
That compared favourably with the race fillies and mares section of last year's sale, which grossed $50,787,000 at an average of $263,145 with an 87 percent clearance rate.
Below is a look at the top lots from the opening day of a sale that continues on Wednesday and Thursday.
$6,600,000 – Imperatriz: The 10-time Group 1 winner, a five-year-old daughter of champion stallion I Am Invincible, sold for $1.6m more than any mare in Australasian history when knocked down to Zhijun Zhao on behalf of Yulong Stud.
$3,500,000 – Platinum Jubilee: The Group 3-winning daughter of Zoustar and Fastnet Rock mare Miss Debutante, which makes her a half-sister to Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot, sold to Coolmore Stud, which will send her to Wootton Bassett.
$2,700,000 – Madame Pommery: Also bound for Wootton Bassett is the 2022 Thousand Guineas winner, a daughter of No Nay Never, who was also bought by Coolmore.
$2,500,000 – Chain Of Lightning: Yulong, acting as Zhijun Zhao, made the daughter of Fighting Sun the first seven-figure lot of the sale when it snapped up the five-year-old it intends to race on.
$2,000,000 – Ruthless Dame: Last year's Sangster Stakes winner, a daughter of Tavistock, is off to Japan's Northern Farm after jumping into the top five lots of the day after going through as the last lot of the session.
$1,400,000 – Legacies: Coolmore always loomed as an interested party in the Peter Moody-trained filly, who is a daughter of their star stallion Justify.
$1,200,000 – Ulanova: The Group 1 Sistema Stakes-winning daughter of Santos was bought by Andrew Williams.
$1,000,000 – Life Lessons: Another from the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman stable, the daughter of Tavistock will be joining Chain Of Lightning in the Yulong green and white after being signed for by Zhijun Zhao.
