Startantes becomes the first Group 1 winner for Vinery's Star Turn

New Group 1 winners
First for Star Turn

Vinery Stud's Star Turn (Star Witness) recorded his first Group 1 winner when Startantes (3 f ex Funtantes by Easy Rocking) won the Group 1 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm. Trained by Robert Heathcote, Startantes beat Snapdancer (Choisir) by a half length, with Palaisipan (So You Think) third. Bred by his trainer, Startantes has now raced 19 times for six wins and five placings. Star Turn will cover his sixth book of mares at Vinery Stud this year for a an increased fee of $27,500 (inc GST), after covering 176 mares last year for $16,500 (inc GST).

 

New stakes winners
Five for Dissident

In winning Saturday's Listed Tatt's Gold Crown (2015m) at Eagle Farm, Rebel Rama (4 m ex Mossarama by Mossman) earnt valuable black type and provided her sire, Dissident (Sebring), with his fifth stakes winner. Bought by trainer Marc Conners for $40,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Corumbene Stud, Rebel Rama beat favourite Our Intrigue (Showcasing) by a head, with Little Mix (Mahisara) third. Having begun his career at Newgate Farm, Dissident now stands at Riverdene Stud where his 2022 fee is advertised at $6,600 (inc GST).

 

19 For Equiano
Former shuttler Equiano (Acclamation) sired his 19th stakes winner on Saturday when Taksu (6 g ex Raining by Hurricane Sky) won the Listed Civic Stakes (1400m) at Randwick. Taksu is a half-brother to dual Group 1 winner Srikandi (Dubawi). Equiano shuttled to Australia for five seasons between 2011 and 2015.

 

Eight for Shamexpress
In winning Saturday's Listed Tauranga Classic (1400m), Sanibel (5 m ex Margaux Belle by Kaapstad) became the eighth stakes winner for Shamexpress (O'Reilly). A NZ$45,000 purchase by Phill Cataldo Bloodstock and his trainer Shane Brown at the 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, Sanibel beat So Gorgeous (So You Think) by a length and a quarter. Shamexpress stands at Windsor Park Stud and his stakes winners include dual Group 1 winner Coventina Bay.

 

123 for Snitzel
Arrowfield Stud's Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) sired stakes winner number 123 when Juan Diva (5 m ex Peron by Husson) won the Group 3 W J Healey Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm. The Richard and Will Freedman-trained Juan Diva, who was passed in for $700,000 at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, scored a three quarter length victory over Prime Candidate (Denman), winning her fifth race in 20 starts. Snitzel has enjoyed another successful season with Juan Diva being one of 19 stakes winners sired by the son of Redoute's Choice (Danehill) this season.

 

37 for Tavistock
Cambridge Stud's late sire Tavistock (Montjeu) sired his 37th stakes winner when London Banker (6 g ex Palos De Lago by Encosta De Lago) took out Saturday's Group 3 Tattersall's Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm. Last seen fnishing ninth in the Group 2 Q22 (2200m) two weeks ago, London Banker beat Seat Of Power (Sea The Stars) by two lengths, taking his record to nine wins and five placings in 28 starts.

 

Seven for Vital Equine
Prince Turbo (8 g ex Queen Of The Rings by Fimiston) won Saturday's Group 3 Strickland Stakes (2000m) at Belmont Park, providing Vital Equine with his seventh stakes winner. Having stood at Yarradale Stud, Vital Equine relocated to Rosalee Park in 2016 and he covered just nine mares in 2020.

 

49 for Written Tycoon
Tyresa (2 f ex Stresa by Real Saga) recorded her second career win when she won Saturday's Listed Tattersall's Life Members (1400m) at Eagle Farm. The Kelly Schweida-trained filly beat Honey Pot (Spirit Of Boom) by two and a half lengths and in winning became the 49th stakes winner for Yulong's Written Tycoon (Iglesia). Sold by Newgate Farm to her trainer for $90,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale last year, Tyresa is out of an unraced half-sister to Capitalist and she is one of 12 stakes winners for her sire this season.
