Gelding brings up Exceed And Excel’s 176th stakes winner.
Darley Stud-based sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill) sired his 176th stakes scorer when the James Cummings-trained Coruscate (6 g ex Dazzler by More Than Ready) landed the Testa Rossa Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Having the 21st start of his career, the son of Exceed And Excel pulled clear in the closing stages to post a two and quarter length victory over Runson (Delzao). Order Of Command (Squamosa) was another neck away in third.
The gelding is bred in the purple, being out of dual-winning More Than Ready (Southern Halo) mare Dazzler, making him a three-quarter brother to her multiple Group 1-winning half-sister to Guelph, who is herself the dam of Group 2 winner and now Eureka Stud-based sire Encryption (Lonhro).
Coruscate is also a brother to last season's Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) winner Bivouac and one further winner. Dazzler and Guelph are out of Group 1 winner Camarilla (Elusive Quality), making them half-siblings to Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Ghibellines (Shamardal), who now resides at White Robe Lodge Stud.
Camarilla herself is out of 1999 Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Camarena (Danehill), making her a sister to Listed winner and Group 1-placed Induna.
Further back, Camarena is also a sister to Watchful - the dam of multiple Group 1 winner and Darley stallion Sepoy (Elusive Quality) and Group 2 winner Mulaazem (Dubai Destination).
Dazzler's two-year-old filly by former Darley shuttler Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado) is named Glittery, while in 2019 she produced a colt by Lohro (Octagonal) and she produced a sister to Coruscate and Bivouac this season.
Exceed And Excel is standing Darley's Kelvinside base for a career high fee of $132,000 (inc GST) and he is joined on the roster this season by his Group 1-winning son Microphone, who is standing for a fee of $38,500 (inc GST).
