TRIAL POINTERS
RANDWICK October 22: The $1.6 million colt BODYGUARD obviously enjoyed being back home and will be a different prospect the next time he goes to the races. Turned around his first-up form at Flemington with a classy win by almost seven lengths in the fastest 1045m heat (61.36; 33.11), running clear from the start under a big hold and trucking through his last 600m after his rider Zac Lloyd could not hold him any slower.
NEWCASTLE October 22: Unraced Harry Angel colt PRIVATE HARRY is building a strong trial profile, having won four of his five trials since January. He'll be well found when he goes to the races after running away with this 940m trial by more than four lengths in the fastest of the 17 heats over the distance (55.26; 33.94).
ROSEHILL October 18: Unraced Russian Revolution colt REVOLT is a ready to start his career after four trials since March, showing good improvement to win his last two trials at Rosehill this month. Followed up his success on October 4 with this sharp effort, jumping quickly ++to lead and sprinting clear off the turn for a dominant win in the fastest 900m heat of the session (53.81; 34.29). SCHWARZ went missing after he finished fifth in a black type trial at Randwick in late August that followed his classy win in the G2 Missile Stakes. An issue may have arisen that prevented him from contesting some obvious sprint targets over the Sydney carnival but showed he was back in the right form with a sharp win in his 900m heat (54.09; 34.28), sitting off the leader and extending nicely to cruise home by an unextended 2.6 lengths.
HAWKESBURY October 14: Lightly raced So You Think colt BARTOLF looks ready for a good 3YO season after a sharp win in his 1000m heat (59.33; 32.89). Settled fifth three lengths off the lead before going widest at the 400m and sprinting from the 200m for a strong win. He raced only twice last season for a maiden win at Scone and two trials since he last raced in July should see him well placed by a smart stable first-up. It's a rare day when reliable 7YO TAMERLANE doesn't trial well. Went about his business in his usual confident style, sitting a length off the leader before responding well when called on to go home best in his 800m heat (47.03; 32.76) under a soft ride.
ROSEHILL October 4: The maiden heats were chock full of good trials. Mark down the winner REVOLT as a good prospect for an early win.
WARWICK FARM September 30: In the maiden heats a notable effort from FIORENZA was a good indicator.
CANTERBURY September 24: Godolphin reps responsible for strong trials included the heat winner DRIFT NET.
NEWCASTLE September 25: SNAPBACK, a former Snowden-trained gelding, won his first trial for his new trainer Mark Minervini in good style.
RANDWICK August 30: In the faster of two black type heats over 900m (53.20; 33.10) SCHWARZ led but dropped back over the last 200m to finish fifth.
