Early Mail and Blackbook Update For March 18

Early mail and Blackbook Update for racing on March 18.

ROSEHILL March 18

OUR CENTURY: Lightly-raced import comes to Sydney off an impressive second-up win in the Wangaratta Cup (2000m) on March 5 when he came from well off the pace for a classy win by a decisive margin. His spring form saw him win over 2400m at Caulfield under 59.5kg before a fine third in the G3 Bendigo Cup but it’s when you get back to his UK form as a 3YO that you can understand why he is destined to win good races in Australia as he was narrowly beaten by Hartnell in the Listed Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and was fourth in the Listed Dee Stakes at Chester behind Kingfisher and Bow Creek on a soft track. On that form he is too good for this field carrying the limit weight.

FROLIC: In a very even Golden Slipper made more difficult by a certain testing track there is no reason to think this filly cannot produce a performance similar to her lead-up wins in heavy conditions that she has mastered better than any other youngster in this field. She has given her rivals a start and a clear beating in both her lead-up wins at Randwick and may well do it again as she is drawn to be ridden off the back of the field on a surface that will find any weakness in the speedsters. Watch out for her big finish as the track will suit the strong swoopers with the best going certain to be out wide.

REDZEL: Made a fine return to racing off a four months spell with his nose second to the top mare English in the Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Randwick when he had the toughest run and had the weight-for-age conditions against him. Hard to fault his second-up record, he is favourably placed this time meeting English 3kg better and has the draw to find the right part of the track. On a day when the conditions will demand punters look for value he makes plenty of appeal in an open race.
