Trial Watch Finds Big Winners

Big winners in August from our Trial Watch Five To Follow

Here’s what we said about these subsequent winners in August when they were selected in our Five To Follow from the following trials:-

WARWICK FARM AUGUST 24

BALL OF MUSCLE (Joe Pride): Nothing unusual for him to be a trial star and he was on song in his 802m heat, speeding clear after 200m and cruising home more than three lengths clear of his chasers. This was his second trial after an easier time when third here on August 10 and being fitter the intent was to give him a solid hitout to ensure he is ready to go first-up. Hard to beat in any short course sprint. – WON CAULFIELD September 1

ROSEHILL AUGUST 20

COMIN' THROUGH (Chris Waller): His enigmatic stablemate Tom Melbourne captured the attention with his aggressive trial over 1030m after he was sent out to lead and kept running to record a strong win. Behind him Comin’ Through, having his second trial since his Doomben Cup win in May after a hitout at the Gold Coast, lobbed into second place and merely jogged along to finish a soft second without being asked to chase his stablemate. Excellent fresh record points to him being ready to perform when he resumes. – WON RANDWICK September 1

WARWICK FARM AUGUST 10

OSBORNE BULLS (James Cummings): I will be amazed if he doesn’t win a good race this spring. Having his first trial since May he was a hard held fourth in the fast heat won by Super Too and looks in great order to produce a big run first-up, more than likely in Melbourne. – WON CAULFIELD August 18

PROPHET'S THUMB (David Pfeiffer): First trial for this I Am Invincible filly and she certainly made an impression in her 795m heat by closing strongly from last under no pressure to finish third. The way she made up six lengths in the last 200m stamped her as a filly with a future. – Won WYONG August 31

ROSEHILL AUGUST 7

FIESTA (Chris Waller): She was one of the best fillies of last season and is on song to add to her record if her excellent second behind Performer in her open 900m heat is any guide. The winner was ridden out while she was working powerfully to the line from the back half with Kerrin McEvoy swinging to her over the last 100m. She will be a match for any filly up to 1600m. WON RANDWICK August 18

DEBATE (Team Hawkes): Second trial from this unraced So You Think filly confirmed the promise she showed in her first appearance last month. She has finished a close second in both trials but each time could have won if asked to extend. She was beaten narrowly here by another promising type in Happy Bubbles in the fastest 900m time of the day (54.34) with her rider Tommy Berry intent on giving her the easiest possible time of it. Bright future. – WON GOSFORD August 14

GOSFORD AUGUST 6

CHABREET (Peter & Paul Snowden): Well-bred Exceed And Excel colt led the fastest 800m heat of the day (48.18/last 600m 34.35) under restraint and was not tested to hold down a close third against the talented pair Jonker And Graff who were both put under more pressure in a three-way finish. Chabreet showed up in good company in his only two starts last season and will be well placed to resume in a 3YO maiden midweek. – WON NEWCASTLE August 25

PURE ELATION (Peter and Paul Snowden): Group winning filly showed her quality running home strongly under no pressure for a closing third behind her classy stablemate Bondi in their 800m heat (49.47). Expect her to play a big hand in the Princess Series. – WON RANDWICK September 1

Pure Elation Picture: Steve Hart

MISS FABULASS (Kris Lees): Big things are expected of this Frankel filly after her debut second at Rosehill last season. The expectations look well founded after her impressive second in her 800m heat when beaten narrowly by her stablemate Evalina after she made up three lengths with a quick sprint over the last 200m. Both fillies can be followed with confidence. – WON CANTERBURY August 15

Other winners in August highlighted under Noted Trials :- Queen Ablaze, Graff; Plagiarist; Happy Bubbles; Coruscate; Savatiano; Deity; Aperitif; Redzel.
