The Tuncurry-Forster racecourse is one of the newest in NSW, being the home of the the Tuncurry-Forster Jockey Club that conducted its first race meeting in 2009. The Tuncurry-Forster Jockey Club, located at Tuncurry on the NSW mid north coast 40km from Taree and 160km north of Newcastle, was formed in the 1980s with the intention of building a local racecourse. The course was built from volunteer labour through the 1990s but it wasn’t until 2008 that the Tuncurry-Forster Jockey Club was granted a licence to race. The club conducted its first non-TAB race meeting in January 2009.
The Forster Tuncurry racecourse now hosts six TAB and non-TAB race meetings each season with the highlight being the Tuncurry Forster Cup meeting in September. He Tuncurry-Forster racecourse is a wide oval with a circumference of 1750 metres, a 370 metre straight and a sweeping horseshoe turn from the 800m to the top of the home straight. Race distances range from 1000m to 2100m with starting chutes for races over 1000m and 1600m. The 1600m chute provides a straight run of 600 metres to the first turn. The racecourse is now a viable training centre with excellent facilities for a growing list of local trainers. A golf driving range and water golf facility is located on land within the racecourse.
