Temple Booms In Galaxy

A performance equal to his previous career best Timeform rating resulted in Temple Of Boom claiming the Group 1 Galaxy at Randwick last Saturday.

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding had generally been racing below his best so far this autumn however turned it all around at Randwick last Saturday in the Group 1 Galaxy (1100m).

Despite underwhelming results this campaign, Temple Of Boom loomed as a genuine contender for The Galaxy days out from the Group 1 sprint event as Doncaster Day looked destined to be conducted on Heavy going.

While the card commenced on a Heavy 8, good drying conditions meant a number of subsequent upgrades with The Galaxy in the end conducted on a Dead 5.

Beaten by four rivals he faced in The Galaxy during his prior outing in the Sebring Stakes [Zaratone, Winter King, Mic Mac, News Alert], interested waned for Temple Of Boom as the track firmed.

Temple Of Boom under the guidance of talented New Zealand jockey James McDonald enjoyed a cosy run in transit before getting the split he needed about 200m from home on his way to a one length success.

The five-year-olds last start win yielded a Timeform rating of 120 which is equal to the master figure he initially posted when taking out the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) then again when finishing a close third in the Salinger Stakes (1200m).

Temple Of Boom's Galaxy success generally measures up well compared to latest renewals of the event and sits just above the five year winning average of the event (119).

Of the placegetters, Nobby Snip ran to his equal previous peak rating achieved when winning the Eskimo Prince Stakes (1100m) at Randwick a month prior.

Temple Of Boom will now be briefly freshened for a campaign in his home state where he is expected to contest events such as the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben next month.
