Meghan MacLaren of England has a one-shot lead from Spain's Carmen Alonso going into the final round of the Australian Women's Classic at Bonville.

England's Meghan Maclaren is eyeing a wire-to-wire victory in the weather-shortened Australian Women's Classic golf tournament.

The co-sanctioned Ladies European Tour (LET) event has been reduced to 54 holes after torrential rain on Friday.

MacLaren returned to the Bonville course on the NSW mid-north coast on Saturday and completed the last eight holes of her second round to card a two-under 70 and reach seven-under.

With the final round to be played on Sunday, MacLaren, who has won twice on the LET, leads by one shot from Spanish veteran Carmen Alonso who also shot 70.

"I was really happy on Thursday and Friday not to have any bogeys," MacLaren said.

"But when I had those couple today, I was also happy not to compound them and finish off well. I let a couple of chances slip late out there, but I'm happy overall."

England's Alice Hewson is one shot further back in third place on five-under-par after a bogey-free 70 while Sweden's Maja Stark and Argentina's Maggie Simmermacher are tied fourth on four under after 70s.

Fifteen-year-old Gold Coast amateur Sarah Hammett, also shot a 70 to be in outright sixth place on three under.

"I'm really happy. My ambition at the start of the week was to make the cut, so to be going OK in such a talented field, it's pretty cool," Hammett said.

"Coming in here I knew the competition was going to be tough and I didn't think that I'd be as high up as I am, but I'm just finding it great to be in such a good field.

"I feel really good about myself, knowing my game can compare to some of the really good players."
