Australia have set India a target of 500 to win and the tourists are looking down the barrel of a 4-0 series defeat after reaching 6-166 in Adelaide.

India will resume on Saturday's final day of play in the fourth Test on 6-166 after Australia set the tourists a world-record target of 500 to win.

Michael Clarke's men are closing in on a four-nil series sweep and perhaps only rain can save India, with showers forecast and a top temperature of 34 expected.

Nathan Lyon, in his first Test on his home ground at Adelaide Oval, has taken 3-57 in India's second innings in his best haul of the series.

The 24-year-old offspinner claimed the big scalps of Virender Sehwag (62), VVS Laxman (35) and Sachin Tendulkar (13).

"But we've still got another four wickets to go tomorrow. The job's not done," Lyon said on Friday.

Wriddhiman Saha is yet to score and Ishant Sharma is two not out.

Lyon, who was a groundsman at Adelaide Oval last summer before making his Test debut in 2011, said he was unaware of forecast stormy weather.

"What is it? I wouldn't have a clue," he said.

"Four wickets. That's what our concern is.

"There's plenty of rough for the spinners so hopefully I will be able to play more of a role tomorrow.

"I'm enjoying the Test match rather than sitting on the roller watching it.

"It has been a fantastic experience playing in front of the home crowd and I've really enjoyed every moment of it."
