Purton Ready To Attack Cup

Hong Kong-based jockey Zac Purton confirmed Raziyya Of Sydney's Singapore Derby credentials on Sunday afternoon ahead of his ride Aboard Military Attack in the International Cup later tonight.

A patient Purton steered Raziyya Of Sydney up the inside of Take It Home and stuck his head in front on the line to claim the Singapore Airlines A380 New York Stakes (1800m) ahead of a likely Derby run in July.

It was one of three other rides in Singapore for Purton today, who reunites with Military Attack in the $3m Singapore Airlines International Cup (2000m) this evening.

Fellow Australian jockey Tommy Berry rode Military Attack to victory last start in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin. Purton was aboard for both runs prior when winning the Group 3 Premier Plate (1800m) and the Group 1 Hong Kong Gold Cup (2000m).

Moore intended he planned to stick with the recent approach of riding the horse forward.

“With a lot of the UK horses [trainer] John Moore is of the opinion that they're better off being ridden a bit quiet and he was riding the horse like that,” Purton said.

“He kept closing off in sub-22 sectionals so when we drew a good barrier over 2000m one day I said we'll try and position up and see how that works.

“It's just turned him around, being able to settle so much closer has been a big asset for him and he's been able to go on with it for three on end now.

“It's an international race and there's some good horses in it, it's not going to be easy but I've got as good a chance as anything.”
