The winning combination of Rosehill's Gerald Ryan, Glyn Schofield and Snitzel scored again at Rosehill on Saturday when Centrepet won the $85,000 Australian Turf Club 3YO Benchmark 75 Handicap.

Centrepet was starting for the third time this campaign and she came into Saturday's race off a second place at Gosford on December 27. Ryan had her ready to succeed and she made no mistake in the win.

Never Dwell jumped well from barrier five and came across Centrepet who was also out well from four.

These two went out from the rest of the field with Never Dwell 1 1/2L ahead as they entered the top straight.

Entering the main straight Never Dwell was still leading at the 300m but Schofield was waiting patiently on Centrepet and with 200m to run he let the filly go.

Centrepet immediately went to a clear lead over Never Dwell and only Chiaramonte came from the field to challenge these two.

Racing in the middle of the track Centrepet ran away with the race winning with a clear 1 1/4L margin at the line. Chiaramonte made ground late to overtake Never Dwell close to the line, the margin a short half-head.

The time was 1.04.67 on the Good 3 track with the final 600m in 34.17. Centrepet paid $4.50 on NSW TAB.

The race was a trifecta for Arrowfield Stud sires.

“They are good little race horses, honest, try hard and easy to train,” said Ryan of Snitzel's progeny.

Ryan has the distinction of having trained Snitzel, who he describes as the best horse he has trained, Centrepet's dam Miss Rainmaker and her sire Hurricane Sky.

“It does not matter what they look like, they run,” he said.

“She is an honest filly and she is well placed at this time of the year. Her first up run here she was much too fat and then I backed her up 12 days later and she was close and she has improved heaps since.

“These types of races are up her alley,” he added

“I wanted to be very positive as I was not exactly sure how much more speed I had (than Never Dwell), if he was going to have any so I let him go,” said Schofield.

“I must say she looked terrific in the parade ring and Gerald turned her out in fantastic order today. She looked as good in the enclosure as she did in the winners stall.

“She was pretty strong at the end and she gave me a nice kick. She found a length and a half or two lengths when I needed her to and off a hot tempo that is not an easy thing to do.

“The track is in fantastic order. We have had some really hot days and there is lots of grass and a little bit of give underneath,” he said.

The win was Centrepet's second from eight starts and a valuable one with a stake of $48,750 and a BOBS bonus of $20,000. The filly has now earned stakes of $138,300 for her owners M Wilson, P Waller, B Betts, M Dodd, F Power, I Hudson, Bosco Bloodstock (P Clift), SGM Syndicate (M Gosling), It's Raining Snitzel's Syndicate (J Timmins) and E C Cross.
