Dual stakes-winning filly Driefontein was one of the more notable gallopers to trial at Ranwick today as she is aimed towards the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast in January.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained sprinter ran second in her trial, an 816m heat for three-year-olds won by the Patinack Farm-raced filly Glimmer.
Driefontein is expected to be aimed at the Magic Millions carnival on the Gold Coast early next year with the lucrative Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) her main target.
Her summer campaign follows what was an abrupt end to a spring preparation after she ran second in the San Domenico Stakes (1100m) behind the Gerald Ryan-trained Snitzerland.
Gai Waterhouse reported Driefontein didn't take to stable life as well as connections had hoped and was spelled following her encouraging first up outing.
The Star Thoroughbreds-raced filly is expected to trial once more before resuming next month.
Driefontein shot to prominence during her last stint in Queensland where she was unbeaten from two starts.
The daughter of Fastnet Rock claimed the Group 3 B J McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at her second career start before of course taking out the lucrative Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).
Other interesting runners to trial at Randwick today include dual stakes placed mare and last start winner Bound To Blush plus Godspeed who was the most expensive lot at the 2010 Australian Easter Sales.
The $1.875million yearling purchase is now under the care of astute Warwick Farm trainer David Vandyke after stints with both Gerald Ryan and Peter Moody.
