The Chris Waller-trained two-year-old Grand Business continues to go from strength to strength, scoring his first metropolitan win at Rosehill on Saturday.

Grand Business was trained by Queensland horseman Norm Hilton and notched a Listed race placing at Eagle Farm on debut before a move south to Waller's Rosehill stables.

In his three starts for Waller has a placing and back to back wins at Newcastle and Rosehill.

Ridden by Hugh Bowman, Grand Business jumped well from gate four and was allowed to drift back in the field to sit third last on the fence five lengths behind race leader Centrepet.

Little changed in the run until the field approached the turn. Those in front of Grand Business looked to shift ground and this gave Bowman the easiest run along the fence with plenty of ground to make up.

Approaching the 200m, as Grand Business loomed on the inside, Centrepet shifted toward the fence and forced Bowman to hook around his heels.

From that point Grand Business clawed back the leader stride by stride, eventually getting his head in front when it counted.

At the line the margin was a neck to Centrepet with the same margin to Knight Exemplar third.

“The horse has done a great job,” Waller said. “It obviously had some ability before coming to us, he had good form in Queensland but we just dropped him back in distance and started from scratch.

“He has learned what to do now, he is relaxing in his races and finishing them off strongly.

“It's his demeanour, that is how he is around the stables. He is a confident horse, knows he is a racehorse."
