Ichihara Pushes For Golden Slipper Start

Two-year-old filly Ichihara from the Alan Denham stable remains unbeaten, and has given her connections a lot to think about after winning the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens today.

Coming into this after two impressive wins, the daughter of General Nediym went straight to the lead with Valerio, after only jumping out fairly, but was well rated in front by top jockey Corey Brown.

Ichihara kicked away at the 350m mark with the Gerald Ryan pair Cavalry Rose and Flying Snitzel mounting there challenge down the outside.

Cavalry Rose loomed up to Ichihara over the concluding stages and looked the winner but just missed in a photo finish with Flying Snitzel only a further 0.2L away in third.

Ichihara is not paid up for next week's Golden Slipper but after breaking a record on debut at Wyong and winning well in her last two starts it will be difficult for connections not to pay the late acceptance fee.

“I worked her out Tuesday morning and her work was very good,” said Corey Brown.

“This time of year the two-year-olds heading towards the golden slipper are usually screwed down and what you see is what you get but I think there is a bit of upside to this horse,” he added.

“She probably got left their way too early to be beaten but she stuck out at the right time.”

“I haven't had a lot to do with her, she was a touch slow away today and is still learning like a lot of them but if I had the money I would,” Brown said of sending her to next week's Golden Slipper."

She's A Fox who was sent out the drifting $4.80 favourite after a good win on debut could only manage sixth with Kyria also disappointing back in the field.
