Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - 22nd and 24th of March 2019

Was a fairly quiet weekend in Singapore with the Donna Logan trained Burkaan a stand-out performance on Sunday.

Lining up in the third event, Burkaan followed up on his solid effort two back, when leading throughout over 1200m.

Ridden by Desmond Chan, Burkaan began fairly before pressing forward to land outside the lead on settling.

Taking over on straightening, Burkaan quickly drew clear, beating off the Ricardo Le Grange trained Master Of Malibu.

Displaying good sustained speed, Burkaan really put a gap on them late, coasting to the line to score by 3.8L.

Returning a new career peak, Burkaan looks to be trending the right way and ran good time in the process.

His first winner for 2019, Desmond Chan was over the moon post-race.

“It’s a big thrill to ride my first winner for Donna. Big thanks to her and also the Al-Arabiya Stable for putting me on this horse,” said Chan.

“I’m just the rider, the trainer and the stable have done all the job. I had plenty in hand throughout and he just carried it to the line.

“He was a little keen and as he raced over 1100m the last time, I tried to relax him and save his energy for as long as I could.”

A winner of two of his 10 starts, Burkaan gives the impression he will be even better over further and can be followed with a bit of confidence.

Only a three-year-old, he remains open to further improvement and is certainly under the right care with Donna Logan.

The Lee Freedman trained Elite Conquest failed to salute as favourite in the fifth event, however his performance still held merit and he is one to place in your blackbook.

Ridden by Glen Boss, he just struggled to pick them up in the straight, but still worked home well and may be looking for further.

Always have to respect SPs and while favourite backers would have been disappointed, it is a good pointer for him.

He should be close to his top next time out and if placed in similar company, he should prove hard to beat.
