Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - 4th & 6th of May

Viviano managed to shed the bridesmaid tag with a solid victory in the Kranji Stakes B (1400m) on Friday night.

The Mark Walker-trained runner found himself in a good spot behind the leaders under Vlad Duric, running on strongly in the straight to secure a narrow win over the brave Winning Cause with Curvature third.

Haven’t not claimed a win in 10 starts prior, Viviano did bring some strong recent form with him, placing in all five runs prior, three of them in Stakes company.

Viviano who now has nine wins to his name from 40 starts, returned a Timeform figure of 94, only one pound above his second placing in a Kranji Stakes A the start prior and one pound below his career best achieved in the Kranji Stakes B on April 1.

Now at the age of six you would expect the son of Keeper to not have too much improvement to come with 40 starts to his name however his recent form has been ultra consistent running similar figures the entire preparation.

Sunday saw Dutrow make a return to the winners circle on protest in the Class 3 over 1200m on the Polytrack.

Finishing narrowly behind Special King, Dutrow got the decision in the stewards room after Special King shifted out under pressure in the straight bumping Dutrow twice.

The win was just the second in 11 starts for Dutrow who has placed on a further six occasions, running to a new Singapore peak Timeform figure of 75.

The four-year-old gelding has always been around the mark without winning races and he may now be able to work through the grades with more improvement to come you would expect.

Later in the day Rafaello was able to secure a win in the Class 2 Stakes over 1200m on the turf, proving too good for the outsider of the race White Hunter and the short priced favourite Tannhauser third.

Running to a new career peak Timeform figure of 95, Rafaello looks to have come back in handy order this campaign from a lengthy spell and is certainly one to keep an eye on in Stakes races going forward.

The short priced favourite Tannhauser arguably didn’t have much luck in the straight but still managed to pick himself up and finish third.

He ran to a Timeform figure of 92, well below his previous effort and the figure he returned when winning a Class 2 three runs back indicating he is not quite worth jumping off just yet.
