Holy Snow wins 2018 Hyland Colours Autumn Stakes Group 2 $200,000 at Caulfield (VIC), 1400m.
Mick Price-trained colt Holy Snow was a surprise first up winner, but it was a smart effort nevertheless. Having his first run since eighth in the Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) in October, he settled well back in the field from his wide barrier (10) behind a good pace before going widest of all at the home turn. He then sprinted well, dashed to the front at the 100m and then went on to score impressively, his second win in six starts to date.
Mr So And So also raced near the tail of the field, was blocked at the home turn, went deep at the 200m and did well in running on (racing a bit greenly) to take second.
Godolphin’s Astoria was back in sixth place, improved (wide) rounding the home turn and kept running on nicely to take the minor placing in a sound first up run.
Prevailing Winds set a solid tempo before tiring over the latter stages for (3.1 lengths) fourth while Levendi was back in the field, improved wide (under riding) from the 600m and kept battling on quite well for (3.2 lengths) fifth at his first start since winning the Carbine Club Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) at Flemington on Derby Day
